The Concept

Educate young crafts people to ensure the availability of skills going forward. Educate the public to promote demand for Master Crafts. Educate ourselves so we can most effectively assist.

Opportunity to Learn

"Through JapanCraft21's on-line seminars, my understanding increases as does my personal appreciation for these legendary Master Crafts. They are glorious expressions of the human spirit and our world needs them more than ever."

In our School for Traditional Building Arts, we offer opportunities to young up-and-coming crafts people to achieve meaningful careers that contribute to the enrichment of humanity. We educate the public about the value of fine Japanese Master Crafts through exhibitions, social media and our on-line magazine. To maximize our effectiveness in achieving our craft revitalization vision, we educate both our staff and our membership with regular on-line lectures for all members and quarterly events for our patrons. Our Zoom presentations for our members may include such topics as Japanese bamboo baskets, ceramics, gardens, architecture and much more. Our day tours include visits to craft studios for demonstrations, museum tours by curators, architectural tours, and visits to the homes of private collectors.

Our Instagram Account

On JapanCraft21’s Instagram, we regularly share information about the craftspeople we support and their activities, as well as exhibitions related to traditional Japanese crafts, online presentations, Kyoto machiya tours, and apprenticeship opportunities in craft-related fields. Through these efforts, we hope to deepen public interest in and understanding of the beauty, value, and current challenges of traditional Japanese crafts.
