雄勝硯の原石の雄勝石は純黒色で曲げに強く給水率が低いため1396年頃には硯石として宮城県石巻市あたりで作られていました。雄勝硯は600年の歴史と伝統が受け継がれています。
Ogatsu Suzuri (雄勝硯) is a inkstone made from high-quality slate in Ogatsu, Miyagi Prefecture. Known for its smooth surface, it’s ideal for grinding ink, essential for calligraphy and sumi-e painting. With over 600 years of history, the craft faced decline after the 2011 earthquake but has since been revived by local artisans.
