Located in an idyllic satoyama,* this family workshop produces original wooden furniture using a highly refined hand-planing process to maximize the natural sheen and luster of the wood. Their original hand crocheted upholstery made from Japanese washi paper adds both softness and durability to their work. The vision of the Tokunaga family is to re-invigorate and expand the culture of traditional, local hand-plane finishing and to ensure the sustainability of essential domestic raw materials through reforestation and supporting the resurgence of local satoyama culture for future generations.
