To develop new markets for interior design products made from domestically produced silk, woven and dyed by traditional kimono methodology.
Biography
Born in Tokyo in 1966, Kitagawa has lived most of her life in Kyoto. In 1995 she joined the Itoko Company, a kimono textile maker founded by her grandfather in 1931. Since 1996 Itoko has been producing under its own exclusive brand of domestically produced silk called “Matsuokahime,” including more than 3000 original patterns. Kitagawa has been CEO of the company since 2015.
Commendations include:
- 2014 Silk Glass Tea table was accepted into the Kyoto Design Competition
- Kyoto Governor Award at Kyoto Culture Competition
- RIMPA 400-year anniversary award
- 2019 ASTEM from city of Kyoto
- 2020 Designated as a Company Driving Regional Growth by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI)
